Land Tours in the Turks and Caicos Islands

Water-based activities dominate a tropical island landscape, but land activities in the sun are just as fun when you know what’s out there. Providenciales has some great activities on land to get involved in, predominantly in the form of land tours. The island’s excellent viewing spots are scattered among marinas, hillsides, shorelines and national parks, thus seeing them through a tour with a knowledgeable guide is an efficient way to cover a lot of miles in a short space of time. Generally, tours are available for half a day or full day, depending on how much time you have. The mode of transport is entirely up to you also, options are varied and vast here and range from ATVs and scooters to dune buggies, to Jeeps or Taxi vans.

As a rule of thumb, tours generally include lunch at a picturesque location and from one to ten viewing spots. Areas that are particularly popular pieces of eye candy are Chalk Sound National Park, Blue Hills, the Grace Bay area, Blue Haven Marina and Long Bay Beach. Tours vary so if you have a particular spot in mind, enquire before you book. Booking necessary.

Destination Weddings in the Turks and Caicos Islands

You have thought about your wedding day, perhaps since you were a young child. It is a landmark and a crossroad in life, marking a partnership which may last for decades. The ceremony marking this new beginning may be simple or grand, depending on your personal wishes. Today, the average wedding tally rings up to about $30,000, not including the honeymoon, so it is also a major financial event.

Getting it right is important, and the location is perhaps the most thought provoking first decision. Today thousands of couples plan their weddings away from home, holding the ceremony and the honeymoon at an exotic destination. Many couples tie the knot on the beach, at the waters edge on an island in the sun.

If that is your dream, welcome to the Turks & Caicos Islands. Our beaches are rated among the top ten in the world, so by all means consider the silken white sands backed by our gin clear turquoise water. There are many beaches to choose from on Providenciales, or the other islands and cays. Couples have exchanged vows after travelling by sailboat or yacht, to one of the unpopulated Caicos Cays.

Professional photographers, videographers and musicians, not to mention caterers and restaurants are all available to you personally, or they may be booked through your Wedding Planner. Destination event planners here understand the quirks and foibles of island living. Innovation is second nature to them and they will have the answers you need, as your questions arise. Trust us, these folk are fazed by nothing, and back up plans are always ready in the wings.

We have few private banquet facilities, but some restaurants will close to the public, in order to entertain a large private party, booked well in advance. Or they will set up a separate, more private section for your party. These venues range from exquisitely elegant to barefoot simplicity; no need to fear you won’t find your style.

Water Skiing / Wakeboarding in the Turks and Caicos Islands

There are many types of “on top of the water” activities. Wakeboarding – Riding a board (feet secured) while being towed behind a boat; Wakeskating – Riding a board without foot bindings being towed behind a boat; Wakesurfing – Riding free in the wake of a boat on a specialized board; Waterskiing – Skiing on water skis while being towed behind a boat; Barefooting – Waterskiing without waterskiis! And finally, Tubing – Being towed behind a boat in an inflatable tube.

Skiing in Turks and Caicos is the ultimate! Miles and miles of gorgeous “glass-like” turquoise water, white sand beaches and very little boat traffic makes this destination a top choice in the world. Providenciales (Provo) allows so much variety for the tourist and residents wanting to get out there and rip up the glass!

The water skiing and wakeboarding techniques taught in the TCI are the most up to date and advanced in the Caribbean market. Nautique Sports exclusively uses Mastercraft from Mastercraft and Edgewater of Turks and Caicos. A boom system is used on their ski specific boat where the student can learn while holding on to a fixed bar to the boat and only being 7 feet from the coach. From there, a 7 to 10 foot rope is added to the boom, giving the skier the experience of trying to balance themselves while being on the rope.

Finally the skier advances to the long line behind the boat and 95 percent of the time, gets up on the very first pull. “This has totally revolutionized our industry”, states Doug Camozzi, “what was once very frustrating and challenging to new students, has become a method of learning and excitement”. Wakeboarding and wakeskating are taught with the exact same progression method, thus allowing the rider to advance with confidence.

Skiing, Riding, Snorkelling or Footin’ on or in the waters of the Turks and Caicos is truly a wonderful experience. Come discover a new world for yourself and try out a new sport or re-visit an old one.
